Throwing Seeds
Janet’s a big gardener and me, I’m not such a big fan. I do like looking at gardens and having one in our front yard is definitely really nice but while she’s really into flowers, I’d be more prone to plant something interesting like fruits or vegetables or maybe have like a really intricate goldfish pond. I also have zero experience with tending gardens…..absolutely zero.
But, nevertheless, as a mother’s day present to Janet, I agreed to try and fix up our garden a bit and plant some seeds that she’d saved from the flowers from last year. She wasn’t around when I did it and to be honest, I didn’t really know what I was doing. I’d seen a million gardening tv shows and read lots of kids books to Holly about growing carrots and things like that, but actually I’d never really planted anything before myself. But I felt like I was doing a good job. So when she came home, she seemed really impressed – there was new soil, new mulch (which I learned comes with large pieces of actual poo in it….wonderful) and in general, it cleaned up really well. So job well done. Which brings us to today – about 4 weeks later and the seedlings are coming up (see photo).
Ok, so as you can see I basically just scraped a line in the dirt and threw some seeds in…and repeated…and then walked away. I guess I had in mind like how I’d seen farms plant corn and wheat – with a big tractor and people throwing seeds in. Well, we’ll see how things pan out in the coming weeks, but for now it’s just a bit awkward looking and I think I owe her another present.
