bluelace project

Early on when we began designing and making our goods for Three Potato Four ,we realized how much of an impact we could have if we sought out and worked with local manufacturers, small businesses and makers here in the US. It has been rewarding to be able to work with the small factory that makes our pennants, the woodworker that makes our signs, the sign-painter who always has new ideas, the craftsman that hand-punches our leather, the small business that produces our key-tags, our local Philly screen-printers and our city-series artist/go-to designer that has since become our good friend. Each time we conceive and design a new product we are thankful to have this network of small businesses and are happy we can create goods that are proudly made in the USA.

The BLUELACE project is a wonderful new initiative and kickstarter to show that Made in the USA matters. Show your support for american manufacturing by lacing up BLUE!

underwater adventure

Our nephew (who is in high school) is taking a film class this year. He created a stop-motion video for his class with these paper cutouts he made. They are pretty great, we’re proud of him!

here it is.

Spray painted hearts across the backside of a billboard.
Messages spelled out with paper cups.
A day flying handmade kites made from vintage fabric.
Custom tags sewn into his favorite plaid shirts…

This couple is utterly romantic and sweet and make some awesome stuff for each other. I Made This For You is a fun diy series from Shauna + Stephen from Somethings Hiding In Here. Read more here and check it out every Friday on Poppytalk. -j

our daughter, holly is turning four tomorrow! her birthday party is this weekend. we were banking on a sunny day so we could have it outside but sadly it looks like it may be rainy. i love planning her birthday parties and love that it gives me the opportunity to make things. i’ve been making things all week like these tissue paper pom poms. i’m excited to hang them all over our house. they were super easy to make. you can even make these using old sewing patterns, i followed this tutorial here.

i also cut out lily pads from construction paper and am sewing frogs for a frog toss game. we’re going to set these lily pads all around our living room floor and have the kids toss rice filled frogs on them.

hope it is a fun party even though it will be a rainy day inside.
i still can’t believe she’s turning four.

Terrarium of the Future…Today!

We’ve had this old space-aged terrarium in our basement since we moved and before that it was in storage in our apt in brooklyn, but it’s finally found a place in one of our home offices (ex-dining room). The plastic’s a bit cloudy, but overall it cleaned up really well. We had our nephew over a few weeks back and he did an amazing landscaping job, even adding the vintage Matchbox jeep + camper to the desert scene. There’s also a mini plastic cow in there which was Holly’s addition.

The 50′s kids chairs in the background are going to be part of an upcoming Kids Chairs collection that will be up in the shop in a few weeks.
