mini bike season

We've been playing outside so much lately and it feels so good. The kids are out riding their bikes and running around with neighborhood friends, playing tag, swinging on the rope swing, climbing trees, fishing along the pond and pretending they are contestants on survivor. I'm so excited to be gardening again and Stu has been out riding his mini bikes. With our work so intertwined with the internet and the social media world of today, how amazing it is to come home and pretend we live in the woods away from it all. Maybe this is a sign we are getting older or realizing more and more what we want out of life after all.

this must be the place

Working together and raising a family together, Stu and I are each others constant companions, quite literally. It can be hard and it can be amazing - both equally so. We are going on 8 years of Three Potato Four - bringing this small business through many highs and lows, constantly evolving and working hard to have more opportunities and growth. Owning a small business is not for the faint of heart for sure, but it does feel good to see how we've grown this brand. It's a good place.

Sharing my favorite quote about small business... "It's like a man riding a lion. People think, 'This guy's brave.' And he's thinking, 'How the hell did I get on a lion, and how do I keep from getting eaten?" - Toby Thomas via Inc. Mag.

frozen ponds

We are in the thick of winter here in Pennsylvania. The pond we fish at, skip rocks from, and catch tadpoles from is now frozen over. On particularly frozen days, there are ice skaters and hockey games. We light nightly fires in our fireplace, not because it is cozy or romantic but out of necessity and warmth. There is sledding when we can, messy snow boots, lost gloves and wet snowy clothes near our front door and many crock pot dinners made to keep us warm. These are the things of winter we long for and then dread once when we're in it. But we'll take it and remember that going through these east coast winters make us appreciate the warm sun that always follows.

nine

We survived our first slumber party for Holly, with five laughing, screaming and giggling girls. So worth the sleepless night to see this smile on her face. And just like that she is nine.

sunny days ahead

Winter has been brutal. Full of so many snow days, shoveling out of our house, keeping the kids occupied, cutting kindling, gathering firewood and every moment in between working on Three Potato Four. The sun needs to show up already - because we need to go outside and play, without snow.

hillside farm

This summer we joined our local CSA for the first time. Thursday afternoon trips to the farm became a part of our summertime routine.  We tried new recipes, ate more vegetables and picked many many bouquets of flowers. The kids learned to appreciate the work that goes into having a farm and growing your own food. And not a lot compares to picking and eating something straight from the farm down the road.

summer is good

Let’s never forget these long summer days of our screaming, messy, laughing and fighting kids. With their never ending muddy, paint spattered, glitter and glue covered clothes and their stinky pond shoes and all. Our summers of are full and so so good.
