Our nephew (who is in high school) is taking a film class this year. He created a stop-motion video for his class with these paper cutouts he made. They are pretty great, we’re proud of him!

nature hunt

One recent Saturday we went to a Nature Center at a local county park. We sat in a cabin and listened to a park ranger talk about birds, worms and fossils, held a snake, caught tadpoles + let them go and then fell in a pond. Good stuff.

Watched Fantastic Mr. Fox again when H was home sick one afternoon. The laboratory scene is great. Many of the science charts and diagrams in the background are similar to ones we have sold in our shop.

you only turn five once.

Sunday, May 2nd, 2010

On Saturday we celebrated H’s fifth birthday. Her favorite movie is Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (Gene Wilder original!). So out of cardboard Stu and I made trees and stuck candy on them for a Candy Forest and created a Wonka Machine that turned regular plastic eggs into golden ones. (This was achieved by Stu who was the man inside the machine, complete with elaborate sound effects.) We climbed trees, ate cake, ran around an obstacle course…  And at the end of the day we gave out Wonka bars (which they have just relaunched with a chance to win a Golden Ticket – trip around the world).
Happy Birthday to our Holly!
