Our good friend Sean is a public school teacher in the city of Philadelphia. We hear his stories about everyday life at his school, how the children in his class have an awesome sense of humor and many a strong desire to learn. He’s told us of  the set backs and hurdles with the public school system and the struggle to keep trouble out of these children’s everyday school life. We admire what our friend Sean Gray does each and every day for his school and the children who attend it.  With the release of our newest city series print Philadelphia Neighborhood Liberty Bell (by our favorite artist Jim Datz) we wanted to somehow give back to Philly.

Stu and I came upon a great organization Donors Choose that does just that for public school classrooms in need. Here’s how it works: public school teachers from every corner of America post classroom project requests on Donorschoose.org. Request range form pencils for a poetry writing unit, reading mats for reading time, books for classroom libraries, projectors for a history lesson, the list goes on, etc. Public school teachers get direct help they need.

There are MANY classrooms in need right here in Philly and with every Philadelphia Liberty Bell Print we sell we will be donating 10% of the proceeds we receive to a Philly classroom through Donors Choose.

outpost: art in the age

Monday, February 6th, 2012

Meet Walter Benjamin, the prolific 20th century German cultural theorist who was the inspiration to Art in The Age with his critical essay, “The Work of Art In The Age of Mechanical Reproduction” (1936). In keeping with Mr. Walter Benjamin’s theories, Art In The Age, a boutique/gallery space in Philadelphia, strives to empower artists who produce high quality work marked by fine craftsmanship and intellectual rigor. As well as operating their shop, they also are the creators of organic artisan spirits: ROOT, SNAP, RHUBY.

We are super excited that Art In the Age will be joining us at our opening party on Friday night. They will be providing samples of their organic spirits with amazing cocktails for all to enjoy. You can purchase ROOT, SNAP + RHUBY online on their website or find these spirits in select stores across PA. Not at your local store? Just ask them! We recommend it.

Watch the short about The Story of Root and its roots right here in Philadelphia history.
