dwarfskill preserve lodge

Friday, March 29th, 2013

Places like these should be kept secret but this place is too good not to share. We just returned from a short trip from a place six miles outside Milford, PA called Dwarfskill Lodge. The 575 acres of Dwarfskill Lodge once was a hunting club founded in the 192os, on it sits three cabins, a running stream/river where trout are plentiful, rows and rows of pines and abundant wildlife. Sean Strub, owns this magical land – Dwarfskill Preserve and also owns the beautifully restored Hotel Fauchere in town. He showed us around the camp when we arrived telling us about the history of the place and informing us of wildlife we may encounter on our stay. The cabins are cozy and vary in sizes. The Lodge, the Caretakers Cottage and the Loveshack. Much to our happiness each one is decorated with many beautifully chosen antiques and art pieces. It is a private peaceful place.

Our days consisted of hikes to the river and into the woods, discovering wild turkey and bear tracks along the snow, fishing for trout along the rivers edge, peeking into outhouses and abandoned buildings like the old chicken coop, gathering forest souvenirs and playing within makeshift teepees in the forest. We cooked our own food in the backyard bonfire we made and only left once during our stay to get bait and milk at the local tackle shop.

It’s 575 acres to roam and explore. A short trip from Philly and even closer to NYC. Please visit this magical place, you will love it. Tell Sean Shrub we sent you.

brimfield

Tuesday, May 15th, 2012

For the first time as sellers – we ventured to the Brimfield Antique Market this year in Massachusetts. Having been many times as buyers for the shop – this time we tried our hand as a vendor. If you’ve never heard of Brimfield  - it is THE market for antiques and collectibles. It is quite immense and intimidating with several fields and miles of walking. Shoppers and dealers come out early with flash lights in hand and many times equipped with their rain gear too.

This year was no different and it was a rainy one indeed. We set up for one day only  in the Heart-O-The-Mart field. Overall it was a great experience and we will definitely be doing it all again next year. Thanks to everyone that came by!

When we first opened our shop at 376 Shurs Lane in Manayunk we were thankfully welcomed warmly by Philadelphia. There became regular faces we would see at every Barn Sale and during weekend hours at the shop.  Kate and David are some of our regulars and we enjoyed hearing about the new house they just moved into and how they were slowly settling in – searching for the perfect pieces to make their new house a home. They both have an amazing eye – as it shows in the creative work they do for Anthropologie.

Stu and I were happy to catch the Sneak Peek of their home on Design Sponge this week and even more thrilled to see a few pieces in their home from our shop. See more images of Kate Jordan + David Chanpong’s home here.

a unique event

Friday, July 29th, 2011

It is not often that you can peruse and purchase items from a movie set. We are happy to promote and be a part of this pretty awesome sale. This warehouse located at the Philadelphia Navy Yard is filled with items from a recent Hollywood movie that was filmed right here in Philadelphia. (unfortunately, we cannot reveal the film because of a contract but you can guess when you go to the sale)

Make sure to be at this Huge Warehouse Sale on August 4 + 5 , 9am-5pm. The merchandise is varied, immense and quite unusual. Everything from antiques, textiles, farmhouse tables + bookcases, vases and vessels, statues, pottery and much more. Prices will be very affordable – with everything priced to move. More info about this sale here.

Hope you can make it out to this event!

on the road

Monday, November 15th, 2010

Wow, we thought the holidays didn’t really start until after Thanksgiving. But it seems right after Halloween the Christmas lights and decorations are going up and already we’ve heard a few holiday tunes on the radio. Stu and I have been busy preparing for the season. We’re stocking our online store, as well as stocking the shelves of our physical shop on Shurs Lane. This means we have been going on many buying trips – finding new inventory and so much inspiration along the way.

7 year anniversary

Monday, October 25th, 2010

Part of a large collection of old photos from the 1940′s newly acquired for the shop. The best part of these photos are the handwritten descriptions on the back.

(Let’s pretend we went to Paris today instead of the Whatchamacallit candy bars we ate for lunch. Happy Anniversary, Stu.)
